Description
During 1934, the Longfellow Garden Club had a wall put up to screen the tenements on Brown Street that abutted the Wadsworth-Longfellow House in Portland.
The club was in charge of the garden area at the house, which Peleg Wadsworth built in 1785-86 and which was the childhood home of his grandson, the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
The poet's sister Anne Longfellow Pierce gave the house and grounds to the Maine Historical Society in 1901.
