Founded:
The Longfellow Garden Club was organized in 1924 to revitalize and care for the garden that was at that time in the care of the Maine Historical Society. The Longfellow Garden Club was federated in 1931 and incorporated in 1937.
Facilities:
The Longfellow House itself dates back to 1786. The accompanying gardens date from the same period, though they saw varying degrees of attention and care over that period. In 1901, upon the death of its last resident, the House was willed to the Maine Historical Society. The gardens were cared for intermittently after this by members of the Historical Society until Mrs. William Wing organized the Longfellow Garden Club in 1924 with the express purpose of attending the garden.
